New Canaan Modern House Survey

New Canaan, Connecticut

BCA recently completed the survey of close to 100 Mid-Century Modern residences to provide a more complete study of Modern residences in New Canaan and serve as a national model for surveys of other Mid-Century houses in the United States.

BCA systematically documented the houses, placed them in a historic context, and assessed their architectural and historical significance. The study included a field survey using a custom-made form based in part from National Register Bulletin 24, historic research, the creation of a glossary of Modern architectural terms, and an assessment of the resources using the National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation.

The culmination of this project can be viewed online at www.preservationnation.org/modernhomesurvey.
