As part of the MetLife Tower Restoration, BCA designed new windows that were installed directly over the existing frames to encapsulate the asbestos-containing sealant located at the perimeter of the existing 1961 windows. Based on archival research, BCA determined that the original 1909 Tower windows were one-over-one double-hung windows, constructed of bronze. It was BCA’s intention that the installation of simulated double-hung replacement windows will help to evoke the Tower’s historic character by restoring the rhythm and scale of the original fenestration to its façades.
