Orchard Beach Bathhouse

Bronx, New York

BCA conducted a conditions assessment of the concrete, cast stone, limestone, terra cotta, and brick structure. Field investigation and laboratory analysis provided necessary insight into the characteristics of deterioration observed. In particular, distinctive network cracking observed and the structure's marine environment helped BCA determine the presence of alkali silica reaction (ASR), which occurs in concrete with high alkali content and reactive aggregate. BCA provided treatment recommendations in order of magnitude for the planned restoration of the bathhouse.
