New York University, Rubin Hall

Location: New York, New York
Year Built: 1928
Original Architects: Schwartz & Gross

Rubin Hall is a 1928 Neoclassical dormitory building at New York University in Manhattan. Located at 35 Fifth Avenue, Rubin Hall has New York City Landmark status as part of the Greenwich Village Historic District.

The project involved renovation and energy upgrades, including a 100% window replacement and new rooftop mechanical equipment, and was subject to review by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC). BCA reviewed archival documentation and conducted targeted research on the original building design. We studied, surveyed, and documented extant historic windows for reference in creating the new window design. In leading the LPC consultation, BCA prepared a historic preservation approach for the Basis of Design/SD report and reviewed the architect’s exterior design for compliance with the LPC Rules
